I
I CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
.- MEMORANDUM
DATE: December 5, 1996
I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator
Y;
I FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent
SUBJECT: Fernwood Avenue MSAS Designation
. Back!!round
I The Arden Hills City Council had discussed the designation of F emwood A venue between
County Road F and Lexington Avenue, as a Municipal State Aid Street (MSAS).
I However, when Femwood Avenue was dropped from the 1996 list of Street Improvements the
City Engineer felt the City should designate Colleen Avenue as an MSAS route. The state, since
then has declared Colleen Avenue to be ineligible, due to its configuration at the McClung Drive
I intersection. Femwood Avenue has now been identifIed for re-construction in 1998 and Mr.
Stonehouse feels Femwood Avenue meets the criteria for MSAS designation.
.. Under the MSAS guidelines, the City is eligible to designate 20 percent (5.72 miles) of their
streets as MSAS routes. Currently, only 5.05 miles have been designated. This designation
would allow the City to capture nearly all of the MSAS funding the City is currently eligible for.
, Recommendation
The Public Works Staff recommends Council adopt Resolution # 96,68, Establishing Femwood
, Avenue, between County Road F and Lexington, a Municipal State Aid Street (MSAS).
I
,
,
I
I
~
I
