<br />MINUTES OF THE ARDEN HILLS COUNCIL WORKSESSION <br />MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 1989, 4,30 P.M. - CITY HALL <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Pursuant to due call and notice thereof, Mayor Sather <br />called the meeting to order at 4:30 p.m. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> <br />The roll being called the following members were present: <br />Mayor Thomas Sather, Councilmembers Nancy Hansen, Paul <br />Growe and Thomas Mahowald. Also present: Park Director John <br />Administrator Gary Berger and Deputy Clerk Catherine Iago. <br /> <br />Malone, JoAnn <br />Buckley, Clerk <br /> <br />for the purchase of a <br /> <br />Council was referred to a memorandum from Park Director <br />Buckley dated 8-16-89, relative to funding the $2,616.00 <br />amount which is higher than the amount of money budgeted <br />1989 parks department vehicle. <br /> <br />FUNDING; <br />PARKS VEHICLE <br /> <br />Councilmember Malone questioned the sale of the 1979 1/2 ton Chevrolet truck; <br />originally Buckley had discussed holding the sale of this vehicle until 1990. <br /> <br />Buckley explained he would prefer to wait until 1990 to sell the vehicle to have <br />use of the truck throughout next summer. <br /> <br />Council discussed the possibility of transferring funds from another account <br />until such time as the vehicle is sold; concurred that it would be more <br />appropriate to sell the vehicle at this time. <br /> <br />Malone moved, seconded by Hansen, that Council approve <br />the methods of funding the over budget amount of $2,616.00 for purchase of a park <br />department vehicle in 1989 as outlined in the Park Director's memorandum of <br />8-16-89. Motion carried unanimously. (5-0) <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />STATUS RPT; <br />LAND LEASE <br />ARSENAL PROPERTY <br /> <br />Council was referred to correspondence from Senator Rudy <br />Boschwitz and Congressman Bruce Vento relative to support <br />for the joint cities land lease at the Twin Cities <br />Arsenal. <br /> <br />Buckley stated that Senator Dave Durenberger would also be forwarding to the Army <br />representatives correspondence supporting the property lease for recreational <br />facilities. <br /> <br />PARK COMMITTEE; <br />FUTURE STUDY ITEMS <br /> <br />Council was referred to a report from Park Director <br />Buckley dated 8-16-89, which outlines several items for <br />future study by the Park Committee. <br /> <br />Mayor Sather advised this matter would be discussed later on the agenda; <br />requested the priority list for Public Safety/Works Committee be submitted as <br />soon as possible. <br /> <br />INTERVIEWS: <br />PUBLIC WKS. <br />SUPERVISOR <br /> <br />Council was referred to the schedule for interviewing <br />candidates for the Public Works Supervisor position; <br />five candidates were scheduled, one cancellation was <br />received. <br /> <br />The following persons were interviewed at half-hour intervals: Allen Bauer, <br />Daniel Winkel, Lauren McClanahan and Jerry Gilles. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Council discussed all candidates qualifications and experience. <br /> <br />Council concurred to direct the Clerk Administrator to check candidate Lauren <br />McClanahan's references and, pending favorable reference checks, rank McClanahan <br />as the top candidate for the position. It was further determined by Council that <br />formal action on this matter would be taken at the Regular Council meeting held <br />8-28-89. <br />
