City of Arden Hills Personnel Policy '� Effective February 29, 2016 <br />"AR�)EN H11 I Amended July 28, 2025 and <br />leave in increments of one calendar day. If eligible for intermittent leave, the City allows a <br />maximum of 480 hours of intermittent leave in any 12-month period. After reaching the <br />maximum amount of allowed intermittent leave, employees may request continuous <br />MNPL provided the continuous leave does not exceed the maximum amount of MNPL <br />allowed by law. <br />Definitions <br />• Family member includes: <br />o Spouse or partner <br />o Child (,including biological. adopted; step, or foster children, or a child you <br />raise even if you are not legally relatedl <br />o Parent or person who raised you <br />o Sibling <br />o Grandchild or grandparent <br />o In-laws (including son, daughter, father, or mother <br />o Anyone close to you who depends on you like family, even if not related by <br />blood <br />• A serious health condition means a nhvsical or mental illness. iniurv. impairment <br />condition, or substance use disorder. A serious condition may involve evaluation, <br />treatment, inpatient care, recovery, or not being able to perform regular work, attend <br />school, or do regular daily activities. This includes childbirth, conditions related to <br />regn�ancy, or surge <br />Note: Both definitions of `Tamils Member" and "Serious Health Condition" under MNPL are <br />broader than bon, they are similarly used under FMLA. This may mean that at times FMLA <br />does not necessarily run concurrently with MNPL Examples may include that MNPL covers <br />siblings and "anyone close, " which is not covered by FMLA: similarly, serious health condition <br />under MNPL does not necessarily include "continuing treatment by a health care brovider" that <br />is included under FMLA's definition <br />Notice <br />Prior to starting an MNPL claim_ emolovees should reach out to the department director <br />or the City Administrator, or designee, to provide notice of the intention to take MNPL. <br />If the need is foreseeable, the City requests the employee provide at least two -weeks' notice <br />prior to taking MNPL. If the leave is not foreseeable, you will still be able to take leave <br />under MNPL and the City asks that you provide as much notice as possible. <br />How to Apply for Minnesota Paid Leave <br />After providing notice of the intention to take MPLA, an employee may apply for MNPL <br />through the Cit3�'s private plan insurance polio <br />Interaction with Other Laws and Benefits <br />51 <br />
