I
. Presbyterian Homes of Arden Hills
McKnight Care Center
City of Arden Hills .
Special Use Permit
Application Narrative
Background Information
Presbyterian Homes of Arden Hills is located in the City of Arden Hills, Ramsey County,
Minnesota. It is the birthplace of Presbyterian Homes and Services. McKnight Care
Center is part of the Presbyterian Homes of Arden Hills' campus and is home to 208
skilled care residents.
The State of Minnesota has granted McKnight Care Center an Exception to the Nursing
Home Moratorium. McKnight Care Center is one of five approved for the Exception out
of38 applicants. This will allow McKnight Care Center to renovate the current facility
and enhance resident quality of life by addressing current needs. The State of Minnesota
will assist in this process by providing additional debt support. As the deadline for the
Exception to the Nursing Home Moratorium is approaching we are seeking necessary
City Approvals to move forward with the proj ect this summer. Weare committed to
improving the quality of care for our residents by implementing the necessary steps to
. successfully renovate and remodel McKnight Care Center.
Current Needs
. Eliminate twelve (12) three-bed rooms. Three-bed rooms are no longer
acceptable to residents, their families or to experts in our field. We plan to
eliminate the twelve three-bed rooms replacing them with private and semi-
private rooms.
. Reduce number of residents on the fourth floor from 72 residents to 58. This will
decrease over stimulation that comes with larger resident groups and increase
quality of life for our residents with dementia. Weare focused on decentralizing
services such as dining and creating smaller family group areas.
. Increase storage for resident equipment. The additional storage will increase
staffs ability to comply with Federal, State and Fire Marshall regulations for
keeping hallways clear. This will again increase quality of the resident
environment by eliminating the need for equipment to be stored in resident
common space.
. Create confidential areas for use and storage of medical records. The creation of
these areas will provide spaces for staffs ability to comply with HIPAA
regulations.
.
