I' ,.- I
~/I~
1 \TTACHMENT 1
.
1 An Addition to the FA Building of 20,000 to 40,000 GSF on 4 floors is proposed for classrooms, faculty off:ces and
other academic space. This new space will be a matching extension of the existing building to the north and/or the south.
I Occupancy is anticipated for Fall of 1999.
The need for a Food Service Addition to level 2 of the LRC building is also anticipated in this general time frame. It will
I consist of a porch-like addition to the south, resting on a colonnade. It will provide 1,200 SF of additional seating until
the Campus Center is built, when it will convert to faculty or staff offices.
In earlier master plans, two buildings were shown as future additions to the South Dorm complex, Our 1996 update
1 indicates one larger dormitory of up to 260 beds in lieu of these two buildings. This student housing is planned to be
three full stories of residents' rooms arranged in two wings around a center core. A floor below will be tucked into the
west side of the hill and house shared amenity spaces like lounges and laundry. The building will be in keeping with the
I campus palette of brick with aluminum windows and will serve as an appropriate backdrop for the west entrance to the
campus. It will be fully ADA accessible. .. -.--,- ----...
A Housing Commons to link Edgren, Bodien, and Getsch dorms is planned to house shared functions including lounges
1 and meeting space. Located in the existing tumaround, it will consist of 2 or 3 floors, one of which will be accessible to
all three existing buildings. The hope is to link the south dorms with a skyway connection directly to the LRC over Bethel
Drive and into the college academic complex.
I A new Campus Center to bridge the physicai separation between the Seminary and the College campuses is the
centerpiece of the master plan. It will consist of approximately 100,000 SF arranged loosely in three floors around the
'''est side of the hill. It may be constructed in phases. The functions it will house include food service, post office and
Wkstore, but more importantly, it. will become the focus for all the students, faculty and staff from both the Seminary
the College to come together in lounges, meeting space, and recreation areas.
The architectural character is also expected to use the best elements from both campuses in a form which is sensitive to
I the hill and the lake while being visually appropriate for the uplifting function housed within. An image of the conceptual
model is shown in attachment 4.
I An East Administrations Building of roughly 50,000 SF on three or four floors is anticipated to create an east entrance
to the college buiidings, freeing area within them for academic use. A bridge will connect this building to the college over
Bethel Drive, It is expected that the Center for Continuing Studies and the Development department wouid be brought
back to the campus proper, and that administration functions including Admissions and Financial Aid would share this
1 building, Additional parking, convenient to these programs, wouid 'be provided in a two levei deck, both levels accessible
from grade, located in the existing east lot.
I As part of an ongoing landscaping plan, Entrance Gates are pianned for the east and west entrances to the campus and
to mark the east end of the Kresge Courl. In particular, the west entrance will be designed in spirit and detailing similar
to that of the Community Life Center with brick, stone trim, and lighting to match. A design image is shown on
1 attachment 5.
1
I
f'
I r2;3 1 of 1
