MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: February 25, 1997 <br /> TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrato(iii!j <br /> SUBJECT: Increase in Mileage Reimbursement <br /> Background <br /> The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) has set the 1997 automobile mileage reimbursement rate at <br /> 31.5 cents per mile, Employers may reimburse employees for substantiated business miles at <br /> this rate. <br /> The City Council has historically taken action that allows the City employee reimbursement rate <br /> to match the IRS rate. If approved, the 1.6% reimbursement rate increase from 31.0 cents to 31.5 <br /> cents is estimated to result in cost increases within the budgeted total ($3,700 or 11,746 miles) <br /> for this expenditure line item. The City Council may also wish to take action which <br /> .- automatically makes this adjustment on an annual basis, subject to the determination of the IRS. <br /> - Recommendation <br /> Staff recommends that Council consider approving a mileage reimbursement rate of 31.5 cents <br /> per mile as permitted by the IRS. <br /> BF/sls <br /> . <br /> ~ <br />
