The term "active living" denotes a way of life that integrates physical activity into daily <br /> rontines, not just for recreational purposes, but also for utilitarian purposes such as <br /> errands, trips to the grocery store, commuting to work, etc. Research shows that cities <br /> havc had a positive impact on rates of physical activity through plmming and policy. <br /> The grant would provide up to $75,000 as well as providing technical assistance and <br /> training opportunities, <br /> The City Council has directed staff to begin the application process. <br /> D. COMPREHENSIVE PLAN <br /> Mr. Lehnhoff stated the next Comprehensive Plan update is due at the end of 2008. <br /> While that seems like a distant date, the comprehensive plmming process takes a <br /> considerable amount of time and effort to produce a quality, useable product Over the <br /> next several months, Karen Barton and he will be attending training sessions at the <br /> Metropolitan Council to learn about the information requirements and analysis that must <br /> be included with the updated plan, <br /> Although no action is required at this time, he askcd the Commission to keep in mind the <br /> planning process is on the horizon and will involve the Planning Commission. <br /> . E. ZONING ORDINANCE AND CITY CODE AMENDMENTS <br /> Mr. Lehnhoff stated at the March 27, 2006 City Council meeting Council voted to <br /> approve a City Code amendment, Zoning Ordinance amendment, and Zoning Ordinance <br /> addition. None of the changes are a shi It in City policy; instead, these amendments will <br /> help clarify the existing language and keep the City Code and Zoning Ordinance <br /> consistent No action is required from the Planning Commission, <br /> REPORTS <br /> A.
