<br /> - <br /> - <br /> " <br /> ... <br /> ..., <br /> STATE OF MINNESOTA I <br /> COUNTY OF RAMSEY -. <br /> CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 97-52 I <br /> A RESOLUTION OPPOSING LEGISLATION PROVIDING A PUBLIC SUBSIDY FOR <br /> CONSTRUCTION OF ADDITIONAL PROFESSIONAL SPORTS FACILITIES I <br /> WHEREAS, the State of Minnesota has many existing priorities for the expenditure of state <br /> revenues; and I <br /> WHEREAS, there are currently competing demands on state revenues for many of the state's <br /> highest pr.iority expenditure areas sLlch as education, health care, crime prevention, highway I <br /> construction and maintenance; and <br /> WHEREAS, professional sports is no different than other types of entertainment, and I <br /> accordingly should be accountable to market forces in delivering a quality product competitively <br /> priced without dependence on public subsidies; and I <br /> WHEREAS, the CLlrrent costs of professional baseball are not under control and will inevitably <br /> overtake the revenue derived from a new facility in a few years time resulting in additional future eI <br /> requests for public subsidies. <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Arden Hills, I <br /> Minnesota, that it strongly urges the Minnesota State Legislature to oppose any legislation that <br /> would provide a public subsidy for the construction or operation of a professional sports facility. <br /> PASSED AND ADOPTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF ARDEN HILLS I <br /> THIS 27TH DAY OF OCTOBER, 1997. <br /> I <br /> DENNIS PROBST, MAYOR I <br /> ATTEST: I <br /> I <br /> BRIAN FRlTSINGER, CITY ADMINISTRATOR I <br /> -- <br /> I <br />
