~'l<H1e:41 6 RFCEIVED '/8
NO\! 05 1997
ClTt O~ ARDEN HilLS
e ARDEN HILLS CITY COUNCIL
Date: November 5,1997
To: City Council, City of Arden Hills
From: R. Orlando Logelin, Minister of Administration
North Heights Lutheran Church
I am responding to the request from the City Council that we review our records for
evidence that would substantiate our position as regards to completing Stage II, Family
Life Center. The sp(~lfic referer:~ is to the appl:~ation of ex'~rior building r'aterials on
the west and east walls of the Activity Center. We have endeavored to chronicle our
findings as follows:
HISTORY OF STAGE I. WORSHIP CENTER PRIOR TO 1997
SUMMARY OF PLANNING COMMISSION MINUTES, MAY I, 1985 (As Re!!ards the
Use of Exterior Buildin!! Surface Materials.)
Page 7 & 8:
-. "Scott Petersen noted that alternate materials are proposed (brick, stucco or a brick/stucco
combination). Peterson said they are hoping for brick, but may have to go with the alternatives if
the cost difference is substantial. ..
-
Page8&9
- "Comment from the Commission
- Johnson asked if the Commission is asked to approve the Stage I General Plcn and PUD permit
without a list of exterior or interior materials lO be used. Miller explained th", approval can be
- with contingencies; can accept the substitute materials or specific materials. ..
I "Johnson asked if brick has been ruled out. Answer was, no, it is one of our priorities. Peterson
said "Dry-Vit (sp')" is being considered as a possible option ifbrick is not affordable."
I "Mr. Ken Kerns, Chairman of the NHLC Development Committee, explained that the exterior
material has not been determined to date; noted that the exterior elevations will be primarily
light, neutral earth-tone brick on the walls (or if costs exceed projections, the warm earth-tone in
I stucco or a brick/stucco combination). The roofs will be standing-seam metal on the sloping
visible edges. Windows will be dark brown aluminum. ..
I "Winiecki moved that the Public Hearing be continued until the June Planning Commission
meeting pending:
i. Determination of exterior building materials."
2-10 other items
I
" l ~\l,:itY(lfanJenllillswunh.1s
I
