APPLICATION: Vacation leave is intended as a period of rest and relaxation <br /> and may not be waived by an employee for the purpose of receiving double pay. I <br /> No regular employee shall carry over into the next calendar year any more accrued <br /> vacation leave benefits than forty (40) hours in excess of the total hours the <br /> employee has actually accrued during that year. I <br /> B. APPROVAL: Vacations will be subject to the prior approval of the City <br /> Administrator. An employee having the most continuous service will be given I <br /> preference in the choice of vacation time. All vacations must be arranged at least <br /> ten (10) days in advance. If, during vacation leave, an employee becomes ill and <br /> is confined to a hospital or to bed rest, sick leave benefits may be used. The City I <br /> Administrator may require that such illness be verified by medical certification <br /> before approving the payment of sick leave benefits. <br /> C. PROBATIONARY PERIOD: Newly appointed employees will accrue vacation I <br /> during the probationary period and will be eligible to use accrued vacation after the <br /> completion of six months (180 days) of continuous service. This provision does I <br /> not apply to employees serving a probationary period following promotion. <br /> D. SEPARATION: An employee who leaves the municipal service after a " <br /> minimum of one (1) complete year of continuous service shall be compensated for <br /> vacation accrued to the date of separation. <br /> E. VACATION ACCRUAL: Probationary employees shall not be entitled to avail I <br /> themselves of such benefits. Temporary employees are not eligible for vacation. <br /> I <br /> -.
