MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: December 4, 1997 <br /> I TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator <br /> I FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Superintendent '~ <br /> I SUBJECT: Pay Estimate #2 for the 1997 Street Improvement <br /> Background <br /> I The City of Arden Hills awarded Valley Paving Inc. of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota the 1997 <br /> Street Improvement Project on April 29, 1997. Valley Paving's low bid was $383,143.75; <br /> however, due to less than anticipated quantity amounts in some areas the final cost is <br /> I $370,990.08. Previous payments of$179,558.03 have been made leaving a balance of <br /> $191,432.05. <br /> I Retainage <br /> As noted in the attached letter from Terry Mauer, Valley Paving has not, as of yet provided the <br /> Ie City with the required 1 C-134 forms and the Consent of Surety for Final Payment. Also, three <br /> items found unacceptable have yet to be corrected. The main item is the quality of sod work in <br /> several areas. The Public Works Superintendent has been in contact with Brad Schmidtbauer of <br /> I Valley Paving as recently as December 4,1997, and Mr. Schmidtbauer is fully aware of these <br /> items and has indicated the paperwork will be completed soon and the construction items will be <br /> addressed first thing next spring. With this in mind, the Public Works Superintendent informed <br /> I Mr. Schmidtbauer a retainage figure of $5,432.05 will be held until completion of the above <br /> items. <br /> I Recommendation <br /> The Arden Hills Public Works Superintendent recommends Council approve the Pay Estimate #2 <br /> to Valley Paving Inc. of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota in the amount of$186,000. <br /> I This amount reflects a retainage of $5,432.05 to be paid upon completion of punch list items and <br /> receipt of necessary documents. <br /> I DS\jt <br /> I <br /> I <br /> -- <br /> I <br />
