Public Works Director / City Engineer <br />SUBJECT: MN-51 Trail Cooperative Construction and Maintenance Agreement - MnDOT <br />Budgeted Amount: Actual Amount: Funding Source: <br />N/A N/A N/A <br />Council Should Consider <br />Motions to approve, table, or deny the following: <br />• State of Minnesota Department of Transportation and City of Arden Hills <br />Cooperative Construction Agreement for the proposed MN-51 Trail. <br />Background <br />MnDOT will perform grading, bituminous mill and surfacing, ADA improvements, TMS, <br />signals, and lighting construction and other associated construction upon, along, and adjacent to <br />Trunk Highway No. 51 from north end of the Bridge over TH 36 to Snelling Avenue North (CR- <br />76). <br />MnDOT has included in its contract a multi -use trail along the west side of TH 51 from Lydia <br />Avenue in Roseville to Grey Fox Road in Arden Hills and the City is willing to maintain the <br />portion of the multi -use trail within the city limits after completion of the construction. <br />City staff recommends approving the Cooperative Construction Agreement with MnDOT. <br />Budget Impact <br />There are no direct budget impacts related to the construction of the proposed trail, although <br />additional labor and resources are necessary to maintain the trail. Maintenance of the trail will <br />include snow/ice control, crack sealing, fog sealing, vegetation control, and localized pavement <br />corrections if necessary. <br />Page l of 2 <br />
