9 <br />shrub layer thinning via mechanical removal or goat browsing to promote native understory establishment. <br />The understory may not be dense enough to carry a prescribed runningfire and some native species <br />(specifically white snakeroot) may become weedy and dominant with periodic fire, thusis not <br />recommended for this site. Clonally growing species (i.e.dogwoods)and appropriate forbs and grasses to <br />inhibit reinvasionof invasive woody species as well asprovide alternate food sources to wildlife and <br />migrating birds.Native tree regeneration should also be monitored and augmented as needed.Volunteers <br />can assist with both invasive woody control and native propagation. Section 3 provides detailed <br />recommended tasksand timeline, with recommended species lists for seeding and planting in Appendices <br />A and B.
