32
Appendix A: SeedingSpecies Lists
The following table displays recommended seed mixes for each site’s habitat types. Full seed mixes can be
found onthe Minnesota Board of Water and Soil Resources website - https://bwsr.state.mn.us/seed-mixes -
for each seed mix codereferenced below. The landowner should be aware that the mixes listed in this table
were chosen as the best fit for the plant communities and locations of the project site available from the MN
Department of Natural Resources. This should not be taken as an exhaustive list of possible species to
include in seeding the site, and a professional seed vendor should be consulted when purchasing a mix for
the landowner’s site.
Table A.1 Seed Species Lists (shaded cells denote recommended seed mix use in those units).
Site / Unit
Hazelnut Park Floral Park Chatham Park
BWSR
Mix Code
BWSR Habitat
Name Woodland Mesic
Hardwood Woodland Utility /
powerline Woodland Mesic
Hardwood
36-212 Woodland Edge
S and W
36-712 Woodland Edge
Central
35-642 Mesic Prairie SE
Pilot
Mesic Short
Urban Buffer S
and W
These lists can also be used as guidelines for native plant plug choices as well. Mostof the species will be
able to be found in native nurseries. It is recommended that any plants chosen for these sites be sourced
from within 250 miles (ideally from within 150 miles) of Arden Hills to promote the maximum success and
establishment. Availability of species from vendors may require substitutions from these mix guidelines. A
table of potential species substitutions can be found here -
https://bwsr.state.mn.us/sites/default/files/2021-02/seedmix-substitution.pdf
