. . . ~ ~HILLS CITY OF ARDEN HILLS RAMSEY COUNTY, MINNESOTA RESOLUTION NO. 03-54 A RESOLUTION OPPOSING THE CLOSURE OF THE ARDEN HILLS LIBRARY WHEREAS, the Arden Hills Library has been serving the residents of Arden Hills and the surrounding area since 1969; and WHEREAS, in light of current limited operating revenue it was necessary for the Ramsey County Library Board and Ramsey County Board of Commissioners to evaluate options to decrease overall expenditures; and WHEREAS, to reduce expenditures the respective Boards have approved closing the Arden Hills Library effective January I, 2004 with the intention of demolishing the existing library and, within the year, replacing it with a new facility with an environmental emphasis, providing educational and aesthetic opportunities particular to the site, and collaborating with the Ramsey County Parks Department and the Children's Museum in this new facility; and WHEREAS, the City of Arden Hills is concerned that the existing library, once closed and demolished, may not be replaced for several years. WHEREAS, the natural setting of the Arden Hills Library provides umque opportunities for library users and others in the area; and WHEREAS, the City of Arden Hills has a concerted interest in maintaining a neighborhood library for the benefit of this community and its neighbors. NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of Arden Hills, that the City of Arden Hills is opposed to the closure ofthe Arden Hills Library; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, by the City Council of Arden Hills, that the City respectfully requests that the Ramsey County Board and Ramsey County Library Board reevaluate their decisions to close the Arden Hills Library; and NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED by the City Council of Arden Hills, that the respective Boards work with the City to discuss options for financial and in-kind assistance that the City may have available to keep the Arden Hills Library open; and
