Attachment D
Recommended Heavy Equipment Replacements
Asset 85214 Bobcat Mini Excavator Asset 85204- 2000 Case Backhoe
Estimated replacement cost- $130,000 Estimated replacement cost- $182,000
Estimated resale return- $25,000 Estimated resale return- $15,000
Current Hours- 1200 Current Hours- 3,562
Recommendation -
Replace the 2011 Bobcat Mini Excavator and the 2000 Case Backhoe for one Cat Mini
Excavator.
• Due to PW operational changes over the last 15 — 20 years, a mini excavator has
taken the place of the Case backhoe to complete small utility structure repairs,
operating forestry attachments, and street patching/ asphalt preparations.
• Large excavations are generally part of a large contracted project or an emergency,
such as a watermain break.
• The vital pieces of heavy equipment needed by Public Works are-
o Front End Loader, Mini -excavator w/ attachments, and a skid steer w/ attachments.
Purchase a Caterpillar 2027 Mini 306 CR Excavator w/ buckets (state contract budget
price- $130,000)
• This machine is slightly larger than our current Mini Excavator. The larger size would
improve the operation of attachments, lifting, and reach capacity. Our trailer fleet
can accommodate transporting this excavator.
(Note: This recommendation is based on Council approval to replace the 1993 Case
Loader.)
