CITY OF ARDEN HILLS . MEMORANDUM _.' DATE: October 2, 1998 TO: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator FROM: Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director ~ SUBJECT: Emergency Generator Bids Backeround On September 14, 1998, the City Council approved the Public Works request to seek bids for a new emergency back-up generator to supplement the existing generator which is 21 years old. The Public Works Department had budgeted $35,000.00 for the purchase of a new generator in 1998. The City currently has 14 lift stations which depend on a generator during power outages. The City may also elect to install generator power receptacles at the new City Hall and at the Water Booster station at a future time. Generator Rids . The Public Works Department advertised for bids in addition to mailing requests for bids to the three largest generator suppliers in the area. The City received bids from those suppliers and the following is a tabulation of those bids: Cunmlins North Central/ Cummins Onan Bid amount $40,368.00 Katolight Corporation/Kato Bid amount $34,853.00 Zeigler Power Systems/CaterpiJlar Bid amount $28,230.00 The Public Works Director has reviewed the bids and finds the Zeigler/Caterpillar proposal with the low bid of $28,230.00 to be an acceptable bid. Not included with this bid is the male plug end to fit the lift station receptacles. This plug in is a non-standard item which the City will provide at an additional cost to the City of approximately $500.00. Recommendation The City of Arden Hills Public Works Director recommends Council accept the Zeigler Power Systems Proposal to furnish the City of Arden Hills one (1) new Trailer-mounted 100 kW Emergency Generator Set as specified at a cost of$28,230.00 plus sales tax of$I,834.95 for a totalof$30,064.95. . -----------
