..
. CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: October 13, 1998
TO: Mayor and City Council
FROM:
SUBJECT: Trailer-parking request
Request
Mr. and Mrs. Costello would like to request permission to park a semi trailer on their
property located in a R-2 single and two family residential district at 3159 Shoreline Lane
for approximately one month (Exhibit A).
Background
The Costcllo's have purchased a new home; however, they will not be able to move into
the new home until mid November. They have sold the home at 3 I 59 Shoreline Lane to
their son who must moved into the home on October 24, 1998. Both families plan to live
in the home for one month during which time the applicant would like to store some of
. their belongings in a semi trailer in the driveway of the home.
Zoning Ordinance Section VI. G. 3. 2. states exterior storage of boats, trailers, and utility
vehicles is not permitted in any residential district, except as regulated in Section VI, J.
Section VI, J pertains to Recreational Vehicles. A semi trailer is not defined as a
recreational vehicle. The applicant wishes to store a trailer from Wednesday, October 2 I,
1998 to Monday, November 16, 1998.
City Code, Section 26-3. g. allows for the City Administrator to grant variances from the
application of the parking regulations provided that such variances don't create a safety
hazard.
Findings - The Staff would conclude that the following factors relate to the request:
1. Safety Hazard: The proposed location does not cause any visual hazards and will be
located more than 5 feet from buildings.
2. Unique to this situation: The request is unique due to the applicants relocating
situation.
3. Duration: The request is for less than one month, creating for a minimal impact to the
area.
.
