Di"dm ~ <br /> SUBJECT: Community Development Department Activities <br /> January of 1998 <br /> The following summarizes the activities of the Community Development Department for January <br /> of 1998, <br /> Plannin!! and Zonin!! <br /> 1. Tony Schmidt Master Plan (Planning Case 98-04), The Planning Commission at its <br /> February 4, 1998, meeting will be reviewing the concept master plan for the proposed <br /> improvements to Tony Schmidt Park <br /> 2. Sawhorse Inc" Variance, 3465 Seims Court, Planning Case 98-02. The City in June <br /> of 1992 (Planning Case 92-10) approved a side yard setback variance for a garage on the <br /> . subject property (increasing from a one car to a two car garage), The garage addition was <br /> not built within the one year window. Therefore, the approval expired, The ownership of <br /> the home has now changed hands, The new owner (Joel and Jane Kennedy) wish to build <br /> the two car garage, However, they also wish to expand living space into the side yard <br /> setback, this expansion of living space was not part of the original approval. <br /> 3. Comprehensive Plan update. The Planning Commission, Consultant, and Staff had a <br /> worksession on Wednesday, January 21, 1998, to kickoff the update to the <br /> Comprehensive Plan (Exhibit A), The consultant reviewed the general planning process <br /> behind an update, asked some questions of the commissioners, and then requested input <br /> on what the process for obtaining public input should be from the Planning <br /> Commission's perspective, <br /> In general, the meeting went well, The Planning Commission is going to have <br /> worksessions on this topic the third Wednesday of each month during the update, At this <br /> point in time, we are still in the information gathering mode, The Planning Commission <br /> will be inviting the Council and commissions/committees (a representative sample of the <br /> community) to a meeting, most likely in March, The purpose of the meeting will be to <br /> identify issues and outline strategy, after having worked on this, then go out to the <br /> general public, As details become more clear and available, I will forward them to you, <br /> . <br />
