FROM: Kevin Ringwald, Community Development Director ~ SUBJECT: Agreement for Electrical Inspection Services - 1998 Request The City Council is requested to authorize the Mayor and City Administrator to execute the electrical inspections service agreement (1998) with North Metro Inspections, Inc. (Exhibit A). Background Attached to this memorandum the City Council will find the electrical inspections service agreement with North Metro Inspections, Inc., for the calendar year of 1998, which has been executed by North Metro Inspections, Inc. The City of Arden Hills previously has been using Metropolitan Inspections to conduct its . electrical inspections. The owner of Metropolitan Inspections, Gunnar Pettersen, has retired and disbanded the company, effective December 31, 1997. Richard Nelson has been conducting the electrical inspections for Metropolitan Inspections for the past ten years. Mr. Nelson has formed North Metro Inspections, Inc., to continue to provide electrical inspection services. The City of Arden Hills (as well as Shoreview, Roseville, Little Canada, North Saint Paul, and North Oaks) are proposing to continue to use Mr. Nelson's services for their electrical inspection needs for 1998. North Metro Inspections, Inc., will be using the same offices and office personnel, except for Gunnar Pettersen, that was used by Metropolitan Inspections. The proposed electrical inspection service agreement provides for some additional requirements that Metropolitan Inspections did not provide. Those additional requirements are: I. Notice to the City of the completion of electrical inspections. The building inspector cannot conduct framing inspections unless the electrical inspections are complete and accepted (Section 3.0, A, 2). 2. Provision of an annual report, including projections on succeeding years revenues and expenditures (Section 3.0, A, 3). 3. Notice of expansion of client base (Section 3.0, A, 5). 4. Increase in insurance requirements (Section 3.0, D, 2). The insurance held by North Metro Inspections, Inc., is attached as Exhibit B. .
