~;h;f~ ~
Date: 3/25/98 R~CEI\/ED
. MAR 2 6 1998
To: Mr. Brian Fritzinger, City Administrator. CITY OF A,RiJtN HILLS
From: Tim and Jodell Boehlke, 1955 Edgewater Ave. Arden Hills.
Subject: Proposed Street Improvement Assessment Costs.
Mr. Fritzinger,
On December 8, 1997 We attended the City Council meeting where discussion
took place regarding the reconstruction of Edge water Ave. The question was asked,
"What can we expect to have to pay for the construction costs?" The answer was, in
1997 the cost to residents was $ 37.96 per front foot. After receiving our notice by the
city we find out our assessed amount will come to $48.85 per front foot. That's an
increase of roughly 28% in one year!
We have some questions that we would like answered at the Council Meeting on
March 30, 1998.
1. Was T.A. Schifsky the lowest bidder for 1998 street improvements?
. 2. In 1997 homeowners paid $ 37.96 per front foot. In 1998 you are assessing us at
$ 48.85 per front foot. An increase of over 28% in one year. Does the Council and
Staff really believe that this is a reasonable increase?
3. If the bids received from the contractors were considerably higher than expected,
Than why didn't the city reject all bids?
We would like to point out that we look forward to the proposed street
improvements on Edgewater Ave. However, We think forcing a 28% increase on the
effected homeowners is a Travesty. Simply put, it's a bad business decision, and this
decision effects a lot of hardworking people.
Sincerely,
~i _~M~
--
.~-
Tim Boehlke
Jodell Boehlke
. &..1 Y5 i"<- Y, ~
3!?lo("l'l
~
