MEMORANDUM <br /> DATE: July 23, 1998 <br /> TO: Mayor and City Council <br /> FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrato~ <br /> SUBJECT: Lake Johanna Volunteer Fire Department (LJVFD), Purchase of <br /> Grass Rigs <br /> Background <br /> Representatives of the Lake Johanna Volunteer Fire Department (LNFD) met with the City <br /> Council at its July 20, 1998 meeting and discussed a desire to purchase two (2) new grass fire <br /> rigs. These capital expenditures had not previously been approved by the City Council. <br /> The current ClP indicates that the 1982 grass rig, vehicle #769, which is stationed at Station #1, <br /> would be replaced in 2002. The fire department has indicated that, for several reasons, it would <br /> be more beneficial to the department to have rigs #768 (which is stationed outside of the City) <br /> . and #769 replaced instead in 1998. <br /> The cost ofreplacement for each vehicle is approximately $39,000. This equipment would not <br /> be funded by general tax levy dollars, but instead funded through the use of proceeds received <br /> from the fire department's Capital Reserve Fund. The majority of these funds have been most <br /> recently received from the contract for services with Alliant Techsystems. <br /> At the July 20th meeting, the City Council gave verbal support of this request. <br /> Recommendation <br /> Staff recommends that the City Council concur with the decision to replace grass rig #769 in <br /> 1998 "{ith the use of LJVFD Capital Reserve Funds. <br /> . <br /> BF/sls <br /> . <br />
