MOTION: Councilmember Malone moved and Councilmember Aplikowski seconded a <br /> motion to approve Pay Estimate #6 for Lametti & Sons, Inc. of Hugo, Minnesota <br /> in the amount of$130,095,64, The motion carried unanimously (5-0). <br /> D. Change Order #1, Sandeen Road, 1998 Street Reconstruction <br /> Mr. Brown indicated Change Order #1 includes work items associated with full milling and re- <br /> paving of Sandeen Road. The contractor performed milling on the roadway, per the contract, to <br /> prepare for the overlay and constructed approximately 300 feet of concrete curb to improve the <br /> drainage of the roadway. During this work, it became apparent that a significant portion of the <br /> remaining bituminous had been severely damaged by the associated construction tmck traffic and <br /> edge milling that had been performed. In lieu of constructing extensive patching prior to the <br /> scheduled overlay, the City Engineer determined that the best final project for the City would <br /> include the reclamation of the remaining bituminous surfacing followed by minor grading of the <br /> existing base and paving with three inches of bituminous instead of the two-inch overlay. The <br /> Change Order reflects negotiated prices for the reclamation work and an additional quantity for <br /> the bituminous wear course at the existing contract dollar amount. <br /> Mr. Brown advised the City Engineer recommends approval of Change Order #1 thereby <br /> increasing the contract amount by $10,602.70 to a total of$689,959.39. <br /> . Mayor Probst asked Mr. Stafford ifhe concurs with the recommendation. Mr. Stafford stated he <br /> does. <br /> MOTION: Councilmember Aplikowski moved and Councilmember Keim seconded a <br /> motion to approve Change Order #1 for T.A. Schifsky & Sons, Inc., North St. <br /> Paul, Minnesota in the amount of$10,602.70 increasing the contract amount to a <br /> total of $689,959.39. The motion carried unanimously (5-0). <br /> E. Authorization to Advertise for Bids, Lift Station #3 <br /> Mr. Stafford indicated the City currently has 14 sanitary sewer lift stations. Eight of the stations <br /> were installed in the early 1960's and are of the type where pumps, valves, and the control panels <br /> are mounted inside a 10-foot diameter by 1 O-foot high steel cylinder which sits up to 30-feet <br /> below the surface. Access to the station is provided by a 3-foot steel tube, rising from the top of <br /> the station, to 2 feet above the surface. Entering the station requires Confined Space Training <br /> and a Confined Space Entry Pennit. Any entry also requires a stand-by person to remain on the <br /> surface in case a problem develops, such as the entering person being overcome by fumes. <br /> Mr. Stafford explained Lift Station #3 is located on Lake Johanna Boulevard \vest of Siems <br /> Court and is one of the eight stations described. Public Works has budgeted $60,000 to convert <br /> this station to an up-to-date type in 1998. Staff also included $60,000 in the CIP budget every <br /> other year from 1998 on, to convert the rcmaining seven stations. The converted lift stations wi II <br /> . be of the submersible type. This type of station features a 6-foot to 10-foot diameter concrete <br /> manhole with a 3-foot by 4-foot access hatch at ground level. Submersible pumps are mounted <br /> in the manhole on tracks which allow the pumps to be hoisted to the surface for maintenance and <br /> repair. Control panels are also at the surface, mounted on a cabinet, eliminating the need for <br /> dehumidifiers, sump pumps and most confined space entries. <br />
