III
_ CITY OF ARDEN HILLS
MEMORANDUM
DATE: November 6,1998
TO: Mayor and City Conncil
FROM: Brian Fritsinger, City Administrat~
SUBJECT: Award of Demolition Contract, 1450 West Hi2hway 96
Background
In August, the City Council had authorized staff to solicit bids for the demolition of the Old City
Hall, 1450 West Highway 96. The City has received two (2) bids for this work.
With the relocation of City Hall to West Round Lake Road, the City identified the need to clear
the property of this building. The demolition of the building will allow the City to market the
site to interested buyers, consistent with the plans first discussed in 1991 and 1992. Once the
maintenance facility issue is resolved, the City can then market the full 6:1: acre site. The
e intention of the City Council has been to use the proceeds from this future sale to offset the cost
of construction of municipal facilities.
Prior to demolition, the Lake Johanna Volunteer Fire Department will use the facility for
training. That training is expected to take place over the next two weeks.
What are the Bids?
The City solicited bids from four (4) companies. The two bids received were as follows:
. Ray Anderson & Sons Companies, Inc. $11,700.00
. F. M. Frattalone Excavating & Grading, Inc. $15,950.00 + alternates
,
Staff had initially estimated a cost for the demolition of $20,000.
When Will the Demolition be Complete?
All site and building demolition will be completed prior to January I, 1999.
Recommendation
Staff recommends the award ofa demolition contract to Ray Anderson & Sons Companies, Inc.
in an amount not to exceed $11,700 for the demolition of the building located at 1450 West
Highway 96.
