"ll

t
..I

e

e

e

CITY OF ARDEN HILLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

January 25, 1999

TO:

Brian Fritsinger, City Administrator

. FROM:

Dwayne Stafford, Public Works Director \

SUBJECT:

Public Safety Commission Recommendations

Rack~round
At a December 1998 City Council Meeting, the Arden Hills City Council received a request from
Mrs. Diana Torres of 1512 Briarknoll Drive, to install a stop sign at the intersection of Norma
Avenue and Briarknoll Drive. Mrs. Torres stated that several accidents had occurred at that
intersection and one resulted in injuries. Having heard Mrs. Torres request, Council discussed
the issue and asked that the Public Safety Commission look at and review signage in that area.

Signage Review
The Public Works Director sent the attached maps of the area to Public Safety Commission
members and asked that they look at the area signage and make recommendations for any
changes at their January 21,1999 meeting. Mrs. Torres attended this meeting and presented the
attached petition concurring with her request for the stop sign on northbound Norma Avenue at
Briarknoll Drive. It may be noted that the person whose property abuts the street right-of-way
where the stop sign would be placed, did not sign the petition.

Recommendation
Having heard Mrs. Torres and having reviewed the signage in the area shown on the attached
map, the Arden Hills Public Safety Commission recommends the following:

1. A stop sign be erected at the southeast comer of Norma Avenue and Briarknoll Drive.

2. The stop sign on Briarknoll Drive and N. Snelling Avenue be removed.
