e

e

-

CITY OF ARDEN lDLLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

April 23, 1999

TO:

Mayor and City Council
Brian Fritsinger, City Administrato~

FROM:

SUBJECT:

City Hall Hours of Operation

Request
Staff would request that the City Council once again consider a change in the normal
workday hours for City Hall and maintenance during the summer from Tuesday, June 1,
1999 through Friday, September 3,1999. As in past years, this requested change for City
Hall would be Monday through Thursday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 8:00 a.m.-
12:00 p.m. For Public Works and Parks, the change would be Monday through Thursday,
7:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.; and Friday, 7:00 a.m. - 11 :00 a.m.

Back!!:round
During 1996, the City Council approved a change in work hours from July 2, through
September 2. During 1997, this change was approved from June I, to September 1. In
1998, summer hours began on June I, and ended on September 4.

The change to summer hours is intended to improve customer service, staff productivity
and staff morale. The primary reason for this change, rather than extending hours five
days a week, was because of our small staff and the difficulty in scheduling coverage by
each department. The City has not received any direct negative feedback during the
period of time the hours have been changed. In fact, most feedback continues to be
positive.

Recommendation
Staff recommends the Council authorize the implementation of a change in the normal
workday for the City for the time period of June 1, through September 3, 1999.

BF Isis
