Moore, Parks and Recreation Director ~ d - ~ Replacement ofthe Arden Oaks Playstructure FROM: SUBJECT: Backl!TOUud The existing Playstructure at Arden Oaks Park was installed in the summer of 1985. It is a wooden and steel structure that is showing it's age. The wood is in poor condition and the steel is rusting. 1999 Budl!et The 1999 Capital Improvement Plan allocated $15,000 for this project. The City received three quotes from companies expressing interest in this project. Each company provided two options as part of their quote. Each option was based upon a different layout design and playground equipment. In previous replacement projects, the cost of professional installation was not included in the overall cost. The City of Arden Hills Park Maintenance Staff provided installation. The Park Maintenance Staff would spend as much as five weeks on installation. Professional installers can get the project done in 7 -10 days. In addition, utilizing professional installers reduces the risk of improper installation and the voiding of certain warranties. Parks & Recreation Committee Recommendation The Committee reviewed the three bids at the April 27, 1999 Parks & Recreation Committee meeting. A Neighborhood meeting was held on May 18, 1999. The bid selected was; Option #1 from the Miracle Recreation Equipment Company. Cost for the Playstructure is; $14,996.86. The cost for complete installation is; $2,730. Total cost for the project, including Sales Tax, is; $17,726.86. Staff Recommendation Staff recommends that the Playstructure at Arden Oaks Park be replaced and that the Miracle Recreation Equipment Company provides complete installation at a total cost not to exceed $ 17,726.86. The additional cost of installation can be taken from the Park Fund.
