Enclosed within is a copy ofthe proposed resolution, as well as a "talking points" list for <br />meeting with local legislators. This is an important issue for cities. As you can see, it is a way to <br />receive fees to help offset costs for cable programming and local access, as well as the most <br />direct method of dealing with service complaints and franchise compliance. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />The City Council is asked to adopt Resolution No. 99-42 entitled, 'A Resolution Opposing <br />Proposed Legislation to Remove Local Authority of Franchised Cable Companies;" consider <br />correspondence with our local legislators about our position; and have an otlicial attend the <br />Senate Sub-Committee on Telecommunications and Technology on Tuesday, December 14, <br />1999 from 8:30 a.m. to 9:34 a.m. <br />
