Fax 482-5232 <br /> <br />The Ramsey County Public Works Department has been working with the City of Arden <br />Hills and Bethel College on traffic engineering issues related to development on the west <br />side of Old Snelling Avenue across from the existing college entrance. The City has <br />previously requested that Ramsey County review the proposed development and make <br />recommendations on improvements to Old Snelling Avenue which should be <br />implemented as part of the development. The County has created a draft layout showing <br />geometric changes, signing and pavement markings associated with the construction of an <br />entrance on the west side of Old Snelling Avenue directly across from the existing <br />college entrance. A full size copy is enclosed for your use. The main points associated <br />with the layout are as folloWS: <br /> <br />1. Pedestrian Crossing of Old Snelling Avenue - Development of the college property <br />on the west side of Old Snelling Avenue is anticipated to increase pedestrian activity <br />at the Bethel College entrance. The County is recommending that a marked crosswalk <br />along with pedestrian crossing signs (both in advance of and at the crossing) be <br />installed. The marked crosswalk should be located on the north side of the entrance. <br />The existing and proposed pathways lead up to Old Snelling Avenue on the north side <br />of the entrance. The north side of the intersection also requires pedestrians to cross <br />the least amount of travel lanes. <br /> <br />A marked and signed pedestrian crossing is a standard traffic control measure for <br />mid-block pedestrian crossings in Ramsey County.
