Moore, Parks & Recreation Director I. ~ I V'v\ SUBJECT: City Council participation in the Adopt a Flower Garden Program and the Day in the Park Celebration . I would like to recommend that the City Council participates in the following two events; Adopt a Flower Garden Program, Saturday May 20, 2000 Day in the Park Celebration, Saturday June 10, 2000 I. Adopt a Flower Garden Program, Saturday May 20, 2000 The City Council will adopt a Flower Garden, site to be determined at a later date. The event will begin with a volunteer breakfast at 9:00 a.m. at McGuire's Ill1l. The Flowers will be delivered to their gardens by 9:30 a.m. I would anticipate that the day would end by lO:30 a.m. Total time commitment of approximately 90 minutes. Minimum number of council members required would be two. The Parks and Recreation Committee and the City's Office Staff will be participating in this year's program as well. In my opinion this would be a worthwhile event that could provide some long lasting positive benefits for the image of the City Council. The Council would be provided the opportunity to interact, on an informal level, with residents, the Parks and Recreation Committee and the City's Office Staff. II. The Day in Park Celebration, Saturday June 10, 2000 The City Council has a presence at the Day in the Park with a Booth! table. Each Council member would take a, one time, 30-minute shift. This would allow the Council members to interact with the residents in a fun, family oriented, low- keyed environment. The 30 minutes would be used to answer questions and in general promote the City. We could encourage attendance at the table by having a activity sign up, i.e. guess how many miles of streets there are in Arden Hills and when some sort of a prize. Minimum number of council members required would be three. Joe, I will need a reply by April 24, 2000.
