.

MINUTES
CITY OF ARDEN HILLS, MINNESOTA
PLANNING COMMISSION
WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5, 2000
7:30 P.M. - ARDEN HILLS CITY HALL

DRAFT

4

CALL TO ORDER

Chair Steve Erickson called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.

ROLL CALL

Present were Chair Steve Erickson, Commissioners Stephen Baker, Terri Duchenes,
Therese Galatowitsch, Brent Nelson, Marty Rye, and Dave Sand.

No one was absent.

Also present were Councilmember Gregg Larson and Associate Plarmer Nancy Randall,
and Recording Secretary Mary Mullen.

APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON
MARCH 1,2000

.

Commissioner Sand moved, seconded by Commissioner Rye to approve the March 1,
2000 minutes as presented. The motion carried unanimously (7-0).

PLANNING CASE #00-16 - AERIAL COMMUNICATIONS -1230 RED FOX ROAD-
SPECIAL USE PERMIT - PUBLIC HEARING

Chair Erickson opened fue public hearing at 7:31 p.m.

Ms. Randall explained that the applicant is requesting a Special Use Permit and Site Plan Review
to allow for the placement of antennas on the side of the municipal water tower and an electronic
equipment building to be located at 1230 Red Fox Road.

The antennas require electronic equipment to be located on the ground. The applicant is
proposing this to be at the southwest side of the water tower using a shared drive with Sprint
PCS, which was approved in January 2000. The proposed building would be 8 x 12 feet and
constructed out of a brick to match the existing two buildings on the site.

The antennas are proposed to be installed at 90 feet in height. A group of four antennas will be
at three different directions (north, southeast, and southwest). The original proposal was to run
the connecting cables above ground. An ice bridge would be needed in order to protect the
cables from ice damage. Nextel currently has a similar bridge on the site. The applicant has
since changed their mind and wish to go below ground. They felt this might be more appealing
in this location.

. There is no requirement for the screening of antennas in the ordinance. However, Staff
recommends the antennas and mounting brackets be painted to match the water tower.
