The Referendum
addresses the renovation of thirteen educational facilities (including the Mounds View Senior High School)
that will take place over a period of four years.

We have requested an extension from the State Fire Marshal Division, who in return, has requested that we
seek approval from the City Council. Therefore we are requesting to be placed on the Arden Hills City
Council Meeting Agenda for May 30, 2000, to address the issue with the City CQunciI. In addition, we need
a notarized c.opy. of the Meeting Minutes which are required to serve as documentation as part of their
standard procedure.

Upon review of the Fire Marshal's orders for the Mounds View High School, we feel that a request of a time
extension would be justified for the following reasons:

. The District has made a good faith effort to correct each violation cited. Enclosed is a copy of
the list of deficiencies that were previously corrected and the most recent.

. The District acknowledges the importance of correcting the remaining deficiencies. However,
if the remaining items were corrected at this time, they would be impacted by the work
scheduled to take place as part of the referendum. This would create a burden for
coordination purposes and unnecessary expenses for the District due to the duplication of
work.

. Although the remaining items 9:6~present a risk, we feel that the factor is acceptable due to
the scheduled renovations that'iffclude the correction of each item. Please note in accordance
with the attached preliminary schedule, construction on the Mounds View High School is
scheduled to begin in the fall of 2000, and is to be completed by fall of 2002.

If you have any questions or comments regarding these items, please call.

Sincerely,

STAHL CONSTRUCTION COMPANY

Gd!:rfi3~ -

Project Manager

bkc
Enclosures
c: Carl Colemark, Jeff Levenhagen -Independent School District 621
Robert L.
