<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />" <br /> <br /> <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br />4364 WEST ROUND LAKE ROAD <br />ARDEN HILLS, MN 55112-5794 <br /> <br />May 10, 2000 <br /> <br />Via Facsimile <br /> <br />Mr, Andrew Siff, Managing Counsel <br />Senate Rules Committee <br />Washington, D,C, <br /> <br />RE: DoD Prohibition Against Use of Army Reserve Facilities in Support of <br />Election Activities <br /> <br />Dear Mr, Siff: <br /> <br />This letter is being written to document City of Arden Hills concerns with the Department <br />of Defense (DoD) directive to no longer use DoD facilities for polling or voting sites, <br />The League of Minnesota Cities (LMC), in support of the Election Center, encouraged the <br />City to direct our comments to your attention, <br /> <br />How Ion!! has the Citv been usin!! the DoD facilitv? <br />Prior to elections in 1994, the City of Arden Hills moved the location of voting Precinct <br />No, 4 from the City's former City Hall site at 1450 West Highway 96 to the new Army <br />Reserve Center (USARC) at 4655 North Lexington Avenue, As a footnote, the former <br />City Hall has been razed and the City Hall is in temporary leased facilities, <br /> <br />What is the Armv Reserve Center? <br />The facility is a DoD multi-building complex with an office/training building and two <br />other vehicle maintenance garages, The City has only utilized the office building <br />classrooms for voting purposes, There is not a secured perimeter around the site, and it <br />has good general public access from both Lexington Avenue and Highway 96, <br /> <br />When was the Citv notified that the Armv Reserve Center could not be used for <br />2000 Elections? <br />USARC Facility Management Specialist, Ron Canavan, approximately sixty (60) days <br />ago verbally advised Arden Hills City Administrator, Joe Lynch, of this directive, Mr, <br />Lynch requested documentation from Mr. Canavan supporting this DoD position, On <br />May 4, 2000, documents from the Commander, U,S, Army Reserve Command, at Fort <br />McPherson, were received that outlined the DoD position.
