e

CITY OF ARDEN HILLS

MEMORANDUM

DATE:

July 5, 2000

SUBJECT:

Mayor and City Councilmembers

Joe Lynch, City Administrator ~uq

City Events Task Force

TO:

FROM:

At their June 14,2000 regular meeting, the City Events Task Force did agree on a title for the
Fiftieth Anniversary Celebration of the incorporation of the City of Arden Hills. At this time,
they would like to bring forward a recommendation to name the event, "A Golden Celebration."
Along with the title, the group will continue to work on a logo for the Fiftieth Anniversary
Event, and hope to bring that to you shortly.

Previously, the group had discussed a date for that event. A preliminary suggestion was made,
but follow up was needed to determine that the park facilities and property was available. At this
time, the City Events Task Force would like to bring forward a recommendation that the Fiftieth
Anniversary celebration of the City of Arden Hills, as well as the 2001 Day in the Park event be
e held on Saturday, June 23, 2001 at Tony Schmidt Park.

At this time, not a lot of details are available on what types of events and activities will be
occurring that day, but they hope to bring that forward to you shortly.

Also, the Task Force has discussed a preliminary budget for the event and related activities. As
previously mentioned in a non-agenda packet, a preliminary cost estimate for the printing,
editing, and publication of a book recapturing the history of the City of Arden Hills, is proposed
at $15,000. A portion of this will go to pay Mr. Gene Skiba, who has agreed to compile and edit
information for assembly into the book.

It has been discussed that potential sales of the book may generate some revenue offsets to the
expenditures, but the general consensus of the group is that this will not pay the entire cost for
the assembly and publication of the book. In addition, the group has preliminarily put together
an estimated budget of $35,000 for the remaining portion of the special events and Day in the
Park activities on that date.

At this time, the City Events Task Force would like to bring forward a recommendation that the
preliminary budget for the Fiftieth Anniversary celebration and the 2001Day in the Park event of
$50,000 be approved. The group would like to discuss whether the City feels it should
contribute any funding toward this event and if so, how much.

e
