CITY OF ARDEN HILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: August 24, 2000 SUBJECT: Joe Lynch, City Administrator Dw'Y" S"""n!, P,'b, W,d" Di='" .'9) County Road E Street Light Poles TO: FROM: Background At the August 21,2000, City Council Work Session, the Council was provided evidence ofthe deterioration of the 17 street light poles on County Road E. These poles are between Lexington Avenue and Highway 51 and are owned and maintained by the City. . Council Direction The City Council instructed staff to seek costs for reinforcing the bottom of those poles and have the Opcrations and Finance Committee research other design options for replacing the existing streetlights on County Road E in the near future. The Operations and Finance Committee should provide a list of 2 or 3 design options and present this list to the Planning Commission. Both committees will discuss the options jointly and provide a recommendation to Council. This process would need to begin immediately to insure the new streetlights will be installed in time for the City's 50-Year celebration. Existing Street Li~ht Reinforcemcnt Costs The Public Works Director has contacted Boe Ornamental Iron Inc. ofLino Lakes to inspect the cxisting street lights and prcpare an estimate for reinforcing 16 of the 17 street light poles on County Road E. The 17th pole, which had broken off previously, will bc replaced by one that was removed years before during signalization ofthe intersection by McDonalds. Thc attached estimate indicates a cost of $31 04. 00 for the reinforcing. Recommendation The Public Works Director has worked with Boe Ornamental previously with excellent results and recommends that Council authorize staff to enter into an agreement with Boe Ornamental Iron, Inc. to reinforce 16 City streetlight poles at a cost not to exceed $3,104.00. .
