Since action has already been taken on
these items at a previous City Council meeting, another public hearing was held at the
Planning Commission and has come before the City Council to readdress these
amendments.

Backl!round
A number of proposed amendments to the Zoning Ordinance were recommended by the
Planning Commission to the City Council in August of this year. Of the recommended
changes, the following sections were successfully amended: definitions; accessory
structures; driveway regulations; fencing types; agricultural uses and amortization. The
two areas of the proposal that did not pass at the City Council level were discussed at a
joint worksession between the Planning Commission and the City Council in September.
The results of this discussion were brought back to the Planning Commission for a formal
public hearing on November 1, 2000.

Proposed Amendments
The CUlTent language from the Zoning Ordinance is provided for you with the removal of
language shown as striekeR and additional language in CAPITAL LETTERS.

1) Section II (D), Definitions: Family; Dwelling Unit; Family; Household
The City continues to receive numerous complaints and concerns about single family
homes that have been converted into homes for a number of unrelated individuals. The
CUlTent code does not have any language in it to deter this type of activity, essentially
allowing for multifamily dwellings in single-family zoning districts. To address this
situation, changes to the current definitions were proposed.

Amend Section II (D) Definitions, numbers 43, 47, 53 and 66 as follows:

43, Dwelling.
