<br />.. <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />MINUTES <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS, MINNESOTA <br />PLANNING COMMISSION <br />WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 6, 2000 <br />7:30 P.M. - ARDEN HILLS CITY HALL <br /> <br />DRAFT <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br /> <br />Chair Steve Erickson called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. <br /> <br />ROLL CALL <br /> <br />Present were Chair Steve Erickson, Commissioners Stephen Baker, Terri Duchenes, <br />Brent Nelson, and Dave Sand, <br /> <br />Therese Galatowitsch was absent. <br /> <br />Also present were Councilmember Gregg Larson and Planner Jennifer Chaput, City <br />Attorney Joe Filla, and Recording Secretary Mary Mullen, <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES FROM PLANNING COMMISSION MEETING HELD ON <br />NOVEMBER 1. 2000 <br /> <br />Commissioner Sand moved, seconded by Commissioner Duchenes, to approve the <br />November 1, 2000 minutes, The motion carried unanimously (5-0), <br /> <br />PLANNING CASE #00-37 - THOMAS WHITTLES - FRONT YARD SETBACK <br />VARIANCE -1867 GLEN PAUL AVENUE - PUBLIC HEARING <br /> <br />Chair Erickson opened the public hearing at 7:37 p,m. <br /> <br />Ms. Chaput explained that the applicant is requesting a front yard setback variance (35,5 feet <br />proposed, when 40 feet is required) for a kitchen addition at 1867 Glen Paul Avenue, zoned R-2, <br /> <br />Ms, Chaput stated that Mr. Whittles, the applicant, contacted the City for a building permit in <br />August, 2000, to discuss an addition to the front of his home, She added that it was identified <br />that he required a front yard setback variance, She noted that the City received his application on <br />September 25, which was found incomplete because the request was unclear and the applicant <br />did not address the five hardship criteria, <br /> <br />Ms, Chaput stated that Mr. Whittles submitted a letter with his application request. She added <br />that the applicant was notified that the application was still incomplete since the hardship criteria, <br />as requested previously, was not addressed. She noted that Mr. Whittles submitted an additional <br />letter, addressing the five hardship criteria. <br /> <br />Ms, Chaput stated that Mr, Whittles came before the Planning Commission with Planning Case <br />#98-19, variance for a side yard setback for a detached garage (four feet where ten feet was <br />required). She added that the applicant informed her that a survey was not required for this <br />Planning Case and, upon further review, found that a survey was not submitted, She noted that <br />she discussed this issue with the Building Inspector who confirmed that he did not have a survey <br />
