M . <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />Replacement of the Sampson Park Playstructure <br /> <br />Backl!round <br />The existing playstructure at Sampson Park was installed in the SUllllller of 1986. It is a <br />wooden and steel structure that is showing it's age. The wood is in poor condition and <br />the steel is rusting. In addition the safety box area is filled with pea gravel, which does <br />not meet the safety code. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Budl!et <br />The 2001 Capital Improvement Plan Budget for the replacement ofthe Sampson Park <br />playstructure is $15, 000.00. The proposed replacement structure is a Tot's Choice play <br />systern from Miracle Recreation. The cost of the new playstructure is $7,000.00. <br />Installation will cost $1,800.00. The building and excavation of a new safety box, filled <br />with Gerick Wood Fiber will cost $2,675.00. The final total cost, including Sales Tax is <br />$11,930.00. This project will come in $3,070.00 under budget. The cost breakdown is <br />listed below. <br /> <br />. Tot's Choice playstructure <br />. Excavation & Installation <br />. Sales Tax <br /> <br />$7,000.00 <br />$1,800.00 <br />$1,300.00 <br />$1,075.00 <br />$ 455.00 <br /> <br />Notification Process <br />On February 12,2001, Staff mailed out 300 letters to the residents of the Sampson Park <br />neighborhood. A sample of the letter is attached. Staff received a total of four phone <br />calls, all of which were in support of the project. <br /> <br />Parks. Trails and Recreation Committee (PTRC) Recommendation <br />At the February 27,2001 PTRC meeting, the Committee voted unanimously to present <br />the bid from Miracle Recreation to Council for approval. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Staff Recommendation <br />Staff recommends that the City Council authorize the replacement of the Sampson Park <br />playstructure at a cost not to exceed $11,930.00. <br />
