<br />fr+kJ..m~.b <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: <br /> <br />February 13, 2001 <br /> <br />TO: <br /> <br />Joe Lynch, City Administrator <br />Arden Hills City Council <br /> <br />Dwayne Stafford, Public Works DirectorYS <br />J' <br /> <br />FROM: <br /> <br />SUBJECT: <br /> <br />New City Hall Security <br /> <br />Back!!round <br />The City Council was presented with a proposal recommended by the Security and <br />Maintenance Committee, to equip the new City Hall with a proximity card access system, <br />TV cameras and monitors, distress alarm switches, and glass breakage or motion sensors, <br /> <br />At their February 5,2001, special meeting, the Council authorized,staffto only provide <br />conduit to recommended locations for future electronic locking deVices and for distress <br />alarms at the Council Dais and receptionist area. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Security Svstem <br />To date, no provisions have been made for a security system for the new City Hall. <br /> <br />Due to the configuration of the building and realizing many functions may occur in <br />isolated areas, the building may need to be broken up into two (2) or three (3) zones with <br />separate annIdisarm pads for each zone. This would allow staff to alarm the City's <br />offices, yet still permit other functions to occur in different zones of the building. <br /> <br />Costs <br />Estimated costs for such a security system are very rough at this time. A ballpark figure <br />would be $15,000, plus an additional $30 per month for after hours monitoring ofa <br />system, <br /> <br />Recommendation <br />The City Hall Security and Maintenance Committee recommends the City COWlcil <br />authorize the installation of a security system at the new City Hall with costs not to <br />exceed $15,000. <br /> <br />. <br />
