.

.

.

2.

are used extensively for recreational and utilitarian walking and biking.
Most of these streets have no offroad trails, sidewalks or marked on road
trails.
Strcctlighting: The City currently does not maintain any streetlighting.
Existing strect lighting is either privately owned or owned by Ramsey
County. The inclusion of streetlighting could be considered for safety as
well as aesthetic goals.
Landscaping: The City has generally not included landscaping with street
reconstruction exeept for cases where existing landscaping was removed
for the street constmction. The Council should consider whether a policy
of providing some landscaping enhancements (in common areas on a
project specific basis) should be included as a patt of the PMP.
Landscaping enhancements are generally well received and would likely
help "sell" the projects to residents but would obviously add cost to the
projccts.
Narrow Throated Intersections: A design treatment to city streets which
would narrow street widths at interscctions to 20 - 24 feet in width. This
design treatment provides tends to slow traffic at intersections and
eliminate parking near interseetion approaches thereby increasing
visibility. Additional greenspace and the potential to landscape these areas
are positi ve results.
Lane Striping: A traffic calming design treatmcnt to city streets which
would include painting solid white lines at 10-12 feet from roadway
centerline providing the perception of a narrower street for drivers which
tends to slow traffic. The resulting space in the street could serve as a
shoulder, parking lane or pedestrian/bike zone. This would require annual
restriping to keep its effectiveness.

3.

4.

5.
