<br />i". <br /> <br />e <br /> <br />~ <br />~~HILLS <br /> <br />MEMORANDUM <br /> <br />DATE: October 4,2001 <br /> <br />TO: Joe Lynch, City Administrator <br /> <br />FROM: Terrance Post, City Accountant@ <br /> <br />SUBJECT: The Catholic Aid Association <br /> <br />Back!!round <br /> <br />On September 4,2001, the City of Arden Hills received four (4) quarterly applications for an <br />exempt gambling permit from the Catholic Aid Association. The organization is proposing to <br />have four raffle drawings in 2002 with prizes totaling $7,800.00 for a "World Youth Day" <br />fundraiser. <br /> <br />e What is an Exemut Permit? <br /> <br />This form of approved charitable gambling approved by the State Gambling Control Board is <br />applicable to nonprofit organizations who do not have an active charitable gambling license, but <br />still wish to utilize charitable gambling events for fund raising purposes. These organizations are <br />limited as to the number of exempt permits allows in a year (five) and the total prize payout in a <br />year ($50,000). <br /> <br />The Catholic Aid Association is an exempt organizations under the provisions of Section <br />501(c)(8) of the Internal Revenue Code. The organization will be represented by Mr. John <br />Sullivan if the City Council has any questions regarding this application. <br /> <br />Recommendation <br /> <br />Staffrecommends that Council approve Resolution No. 01-17, "Approving an Exempt Gambling <br />Permit Application," at the October 9, 2001, regular Council meeting. <br /> <br />Attachments <br /> <br />e <br />
