As part of this upgrade, a draft technology policy has been developed to govern the use of
internet, e-mail, and related systems for users of City technology. While the policy in large part pertains
to City employees, it is aiso applicable to all users of City technology. The draft policy has been attached
for your review. While the policy is rather long to ensure that all areas of potential liability are addressed,
the following highlights the overall purpose and key points of the policy:

. The policy is intended to guide City employees, volunteers, and contractors in the performance of
their duties,
. The policy provides notice to technology users that all data, including any that is stored or printed
as a document, is subject to audit and review, There is no expectation of personal privacy in the
use of the internet and e-mail systems when using the computers or services provided by the City
of Arden Hills,
. The policy serves to delineate acceptable use of the internet and e-mail systems and other
technological resources provided by the City of Arden Hills. The policy also aims to ensure that
the use of various technological resources is consistent with established City policies and the
individual user's job responsibilities,
. On a limited basis, the policy also seeks to reinforce internal practices, address network security,
and provide guidelines for training,

The policy was sent to the Website Task Force and the City Attorney for their review, No suggestions
from the Task Force have been received to date. At this point, the policy is in effect on an interim basis
until formal approval is given by the Council.
