<br />City of Arden Hills Personnel Policy <br /> <br />Effective June 29, 2002 <br /> <br />OUTSIDE EMPLOYMENT <br /> <br />Employees may not engage in any outside employment or business which could hinder or <br />impair their performance of their public duties, embarrass the City government, be <br />incompatible with their City employment or conflict with their efficiency on the job. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />Outside work will be regarded as secondary to regular City employment and must not <br />interfere with the employee's availability for emergency or call-in duty. There will be no <br />Worker's Compensation to anyone injured while doing outside employment. <br /> <br />No employee may accept payor compensation from anyone for time worked while being <br />paid by the City. <br /> <br />Employees are prohibited from working for any contractor or company that has a contract <br />with the City during the period of construction work for the City. <br /> <br />POLITICAL ACTIVITY <br /> <br />No employee shall, directly, or indirectly, during their hours of employment solicit or receive <br />funds, or at any time use their authority or official influence to compel any other employee to <br />apply for membership in or become a member of any organization, or to payor promise to <br />pay any assessment, subscription, or contribution, or to take part in any political activity. An <br />employee of the City shall take an unpaid leave of absence upon becoming a candidate for <br />any public office if the City Administrator determines that the candidacy conflicts with the <br />employee's City employment. Such leave of absence shall terminate on the day following the <br />date of election for which the employee was a candidate. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />SMOKING <br /> <br />In an effort to provide a healthy, comfortable and productive working environment for City <br />employees, the City of Arden Hills has designated the City Offices and Maintenance Garage <br />as smoke-free areas. <br /> <br />Employees violating the above policy shall be guilty of a petty misdemeanor and subject to <br />disciplinary action. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />20 <br />
