2003 Recreation Program Budget
June 13,2002
2

· Special event programming that serves the community on a no cost basis

Staff in attendance at the work session will be Tom Moore, Michelle Olson and Joe Lynch.
Terry Post is on vacation and will not be at the meeting. Staff met on two occasions to discuss
this Budget. Tom, Terry and I met recently to discuss the approach and need for direction from
the CoullciL

On a related note, Council needs to consider what to do about the Day in the Park event. The last
two years this has been the annual civic event. Prior to that, Day in the Park was a smaller scale
event to recognize some improvements in one Park. It has grown into something else. Council
nccds to decide if this is an event sponsored and run by the city, or is it an event that should be
run by an outside group of volunteers, with some financial support from the city? While the
financial commitment is $17,500 for 2002, the physical commitment is a whole lot more.

Budgeting always comes down to choices. Faced with a choice of an increase of approximately
$17,000, where does the Council want this money to go; the Recreation Program, D.A.R.E. or
Day in the Park, or all three?

.

.

.
