July 15, 2002 Aaron Parrish Cily Planner City of Arden Hills 1245 West Highway 96 Arden Hills, MN 55112 RE: Comments for Public Hearing on Special Use Permit Dear Mr. Parrish and Members ofthe Planning Commission: We arc writing this letter to voice Our concern and 10 communicate that we are very much against issuing a special use permit to Fred and Sylvia Berndt, 1575 Edgewater Avenue West to build a boat house on their propelty. . We (Earl G. Ford and Pamela DaWin Ford) have lived and owned the bouse at 1557 Edgewater Ave since 1952. We love our lake sbore property and the wonderful views it presents us. We are very mucb against the construction of any new boat houses on the lake. We believe they are ugly, will create visual impairment, and serve no viable purpose. It has been our understanding for years that no new boat houses would be allowed to be constructed on the lake and that the MitlileSOla DNR also has regulations or guidelines against any such structures near any lake shore within the state. We see no reason to open this pandoras's box. We respectfully request that you deny this request for a special use permit and any such requests in the future. We also request that you take whatever action is necessary to preclude any such requests in tbe future. In our opinion, this issue concerns everyone who lives on or uses the Jake, not just the property owners within 350 fl. We, as a community, need to do whatever we can to enhance the wonderful resource Lake Johanna provides everyone visiting the lake. Construction of boat houses along the shoreline serves no useful purpose for the public who use the lake and values its beauty. Respectfully, ~ !1d i.,..f) Earl G.
