-.

Parrish, Aaron

From: H D HANSEN [nancykhansen@msn.com]
Sent: Thursday, July 18, 2002 12:05 PM
To: aaron.parrish@cLarden-hills.mn.us

.

Good Morning, My name is Nancy Hansen and I live at 3368 Lake Johanna Blvd. I have shoreline property and
have owned here since 1940. I received an email from the Lake Johanna Improvement Society (one I ran for
over 20 years) about a structure to be built on Lake Johanna, I assume shoreline. I have another meeting tonight
so I cannot attend the planning commission meeting. I don't know what is planned; however I do think you need
to be aware that the DNR has extreme restrictions and I don't think a special use permit from you will override it.
In the past, they have stopped stone retaining walls, even those not on the shoreline but within 25 feet of the
water. So this probably needs to be run by the DNR and Rice Creek has many issues as well. I don't mean to tell
you your job and you may be very aware of these restrictions.
As a shoreline owner, I have a boat house, built in 1940 and maintained to perfection. Some other accessory
structures are in poor repair and that has been an issue for years by shoreline owners.
I don't stand opposed to another person having some of the advantages I have enjoyed for years, but I do think
we need to look like all the sides. There is or was an ordinance (when I served on the City Council) that even
restricted storage of ice houses on the shoreline. Consider all the ramifications of that if you permit one
accessory building. How many are we going to get, how many ice houses will be stored on the shoreline, when
will it end?
I am home most of today, 633-1097 and I have voice mail if I don't catch the phone. I appreciate you listening to
me and conveying any new information to the planning commission. Having served the city for many years in
many different capacities, I understand the commitment for the commissioners and paid staff to continue to
maintain the wonderful quality of Arden Hills. Thanks.

Nancy Hansen

.

.

7/17/2002
