Plarming Commission Meeting Minute Excerpt

Overview

Trinity Lutheran Church of Lake Joharma is requesting a zoning ordinance amendment that
would allow music lessons as an accessory use for Houses of Worship. Currently, the zoning
ordinance considers music lessons a studio use. Studio uses are only allowed in the commercial
zoning districts (Neighborhood Business; B-1 to B-4; and Civic Center). See the attached Land
Use Chart for additional information.

ProDosed Zoninl1: Ordinance Amendment

Currently, the zoning ordinance allows Daycare Facilities as an accessory use in Houses of
Worship. The following language from Section 6.B.2. of the zoning ordinance is illustrative:

Day Care Facilities for Houses of Worship and Schools. Day care facilities for over ten
(10) persons shall be considered as accessory uses for houses of worship and schools
within all residential districts if located in the principal building.

Much like day care facilities, music lessons are often an ancillary use for churches and other
quasi public buildings. To accommodate this, the ordinance language above could be redrafted
in the following marmer:

Day Care Facilities IRI.i'i<llil!tJl~:I.~ for Houses of Worship and Schools. Day care
facilities for over ten (10) persons shall be considered as accessory uses for houses of worship
