.

.

.

DESCRIBE ANY OF THE FOLLOWING GEOLOGIC SITE HAZARDS TO GROUND
WATER AND ALSO IDENTIFY THEM ON THE SITE MAP: SINKHOLES,
SHALLOW LIMESTONE FORMATIONS OR KARST CONDmONS. DESCRIBE
MEASURES TO A VOID OR MINIMIZE ENVIRONMENTAL PROBLEMS DUE TO
ANY OF THESE HAZARDS.

B.

DESCRIBE THE SOILS ON THE SITE, GNING NRCS (SCS) CLASSIFICATIONS, IF
KNOWN. DISCUSS SOIL GRANULARITY AND POTENTIAL FOR
GROUNDWATER CONTAMINATION FROM WASTES OR CHEMICALS SPREAD
OR SPILLED ONTO THE SOILS. DISCUSS ANY MmGATION MEASURES TO
PREVENT SUCH CONTAMINATION.

AUAR:
A map should be included to show any groundwater hazards identified. A standard soils
map covering the area should be included.

The Bedrock Geology (1992) portion of the Geological Atlas for Ramsey County was
reviewed for the AUAR study area and does not identif'y any geologic features (karst
topography, shallow limestone, etc.) that will result in potential groundwater hazard
conditions,

The Washington and Ramsey County Soil Survey (U.S. Dept. of Agriculture Soil
Conservation Service, 1980) was reviewed and indicates that native soils within the AUAR
_ study area consist mostly of the Hayden-Urban variety which are undulating to steep, well-
drained, moderately coarse textured soils and urban lands; or uplands. Much of the AUAR
study area is now considered Urban Land, which includes 70 percent coverage by buildings
and pavement, and native soil has been greatly altered by excavation and grading.

Figure 13 shows the location of various soil types in the study area, including slope
percentages for each soil subgroup. Soils information for the study area was obtained from
the Washington and Ramsey Counties Soil Survey (U.s. Department of Agriculture, Soil
Conservation Service, 1980). The following soil types occur in the study area (slopes are
given in parentheses):

. 1039
. 132 B
. 132 C
. 860C
1055

Urban Land
Hayden fine sandy loam (2-6%)
Hayden fine sandy loam (6-12%)
Urban land-Hayden-Kingsley Complex (3-15%)
Aquolls and Histolsols, ponded

The permeability of the soils in the area is moderate.

Guidant Campus Master Plan
Draft AUAR

- 26-

September 2002
