~ . . . ~ ~~ILLS MEMORANDUM DATE: Agenda Item 8.B December 11, 2002 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: Joe Lynch, City Administrator SUBJECT: 2003 City Retreat ENCL.: 2003 City Retreat Proposal from Marilyn Condon Backl!round After meeting with Council and City staff to discnss desired agenda items, outcomes, and expectations for the 2003 City Retreat, Marilyn Condon, our retreat consultant, has put together a proposal. The proposal includes a series of meetings between Council and staff to discuss vision, goals, communication, improving relationships, and role and responsibility clarification. The proposal is based upon the meetings being inter-related and serial; although council can pick and choose between the three sessions. However, Session #1 is the building block and is the one meeting that City Council should strongly consider. Cost To date we have spent $1,994 on City Council and staff meetings with the retreat consultant to discuss the agenda, process, and timing. Staff has identified the cost related to each of the individual sessions as well as indicated the total cost (including the money spent to date). The total 2003 City Council retreat budget is $3,500. Even if Council chooses to do only Session #1, we will be over the 2003 retreat budget. Council had previously indicated that they were willing to look at making expenditures over the budget in order to get the right results from a City retreat.
