<br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br /> <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br /> <br />CITY OF ARDEN HILLS <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 87-71 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION OPPOSING STATE SALES AND MOTOR VEHICLE <br />EXCISE TAX ON PURCHASES MADE BY CITIES AND OTHER LOCAL GOVERNMENT <br />UNITS <br /> <br />purchases <br />and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br />of vehicles <br /> <br />extending the six percent sales tax to city <br />has restricted budgets for some local governments, <br /> <br />WHEREAS, extending the sales tax to other city purchases <br />would severely restrict budgets of all local governments, costing cities <br />according to a League of Minnesota Cities survey -- $32 million per <br />year; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, forcing local governments to pay state sales tax <br />amounts to one level of government taxing another; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, this increased sales tax necessitates increased <br />local property taxes; <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Council of the City <br />Hills, that the members of the Minnesota Legislature are <br />to reject state legislation forcing local governments to pay the <br />sales and motor vehicle excise tax on their purchases. <br /> <br />of Arden <br />requested <br />six percent <br /> <br />Adopted <br />December, 1987. <br /> <br />by the Arden Hills Council this 14th day of <br /> <br />fjk~.J.,/%'r/4~ <br /> <br />Robert L.
